For example, a transport authority or operator can define an area on the map, such as the intersection of Wierzbowa and Hetmańska Streets, and specify a time range, for example from 12:50 to 13:20. Based on these query parameters, the PxRSS software searches for all available recordings from public transport vehicles that were actually present within the selected area during that time. The footage can then be played back or remotely secured by transferring the recording to a central repository, for example after the vehicle returns to the depot.

Recordings can also be searched using other criteria, including a specific vehicle, event, map position, speed, stop, trip number, or operated route. The operator can select the cameras from which footage should be retrieved and choose the transmission medium, either Wi-Fi or GSM.

The PxRSS system communicates directly with the PVR recorder and provides, among other features:

• remote live viewing of cameras installed in the vehicle,
• remote retrieval and archiving of recordings via Wi-Fi or GSM using the vehicle’s network infrastructure, as well as copying footage to USB storage devices,
• device self-diagnostics, including monitoring the correct operation of the system and reporting faults such as hard drive or camera failures; device statuses can also be automatically compiled and sent as consolidated email reports according to a defined schedule.

The largest PxRSS deployment is currently in operation at MPK Kraków, where the software monitors more than 400 vehicles.
